The story of Sweetwater has its origins in solving the problems of poor quality irrigation waters on a farm in the semi-arid regions of the central United States. In arriving at an environmentally-responsible, affordable solution, the founders turned to an old method based on sulfur-burning technology dating back to the mid-1800s in Germany, and possibly existing during the Egyptian’s time. Over the course of a decade, the technology has been refined through its application in the U.S., Pakistan, and other parts of the world. Experts in the fields of soil chemistry, salinity management, crop science, irrigation, agronomy and other fields have helped in the development process, making Sweetwater’s technology robust and affordable.

Alongside the technology, Sweetwater agricultural development teams have evolved. In order to maximize the technology’s impact, expert networks were needed to train local-area farmers and instill best management practices, which would sustain the gains made by the use of this technology. The creation of a network of agribusiness support teams, FAST or Frontier Agri-Solutions and Training, complemented the technology to bridge known farming knowledge gaps.

Importantly, Sweetwater has plans to help farmers across the globe overcome their challenges in regions that are strife with food security issues. With the transfer of technology and precision agricultural management practices, the development of agricultural sectors and markets in areas deemed “impossible” can be reversed. We recognize the urgent demand to address complex economic and social issues surrounding food, environment, development, and stability.
